Jazzing up Walls with Artefacts

Living in a house in the UK means you’ve got a bunch of walls just waiting for some flair. Instead of going the usual route with paintings and posters, I love choosing artefacts to spice things up. Here are four distinctive ideas.

Mini Piano

Back in the day, a miniature piano like this was a staple in every household as a kid’s toy. Hung on the wall, it not only enhances the visual appeal but also encapsulates rich memories and sentiments. And when you’re in the mood, you can jam out on the wall for a bit of fun.

Mini Foosball Machine

This small football machine isn’t just for showing – it can be taken down from the wall to provide entertainment for guests. It’s funky design adds style to the décor.

Restaurant Placemats

These two placemats were collected during our honeymoon in Quebec City. To keep those sweet memories alive, I laminated and framed them, and painted the frame with a bold colour. Boom, instant style upgrade for the dining room!

Wedding Dress Embroidery

Wedding gowns usually get stuck at the bottom of closets. One day I was chatting with my friend who designed my wedding dress. He reminded me of the priceless hand-embroidery on it, saying that it is no longer easy to find someone capable of such skillful embroidery today. I was inspired: “Why not treat the dress as a legit piece of art?” So, I framed it and hung it above the headboard – way cooler than a wedding photo.

Using artefacts as wall decoration is like curating a “Life Experience Gallery”. Each piece tells a unique story, ready to evoke fond memories and good vibes. When friends drop by, these pieces, narrating stories of childhood, travel and love, readily become conversation starters.
