Washing Hair with Baking Soda & Apple Cider Vinegar

Many years ago, after learning about the harmful effects of chemical detergents, I abandoned shampoo and conditioner, switching instead to washing my hair with baking soda and conditioning with apple cider vinegar. The results have been fantastic. I’ve had severe dandruff issues since I was young and have tried countless shampoos and anti-dandruff formulas to no avail. Who would have thought that not using shampoo would be the solution! Since switching to baking soda and apple cider vinegar, my coarse, thick, and hard hair has become soft and shiny, resolving the issues with my unruly hair. Additionally, since my hair is thick, washing it has always been a chore, but this new method is much more effortless! This method doesn’t produce foam, so rinsing with clean water is quick and easy, without the need to spend a long time removing foam.

 Here’s how I do it:

  1. Add two teaspoons of baking soda to about 400ml of water, put it in a soy sauce bottle, and use it to wash your hair, mainly focusing on the roots and scalp.
  2. If your hair is very dirty, repeat the above step.
  3. After cleaning your hair, dilute two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with about 400ml of water and use it as a rinse. This time, mainly pour the solution over the hair strands.
  4. Rinse off the apple cider vinegar with clean water. (Some people leave the apple cider vinegar in their hair and let it air dry naturally.)

Discovering this new method of hair washing has brought me great satisfaction because it’s beneficial for both myself and the environment. Many cleaning product manufacturers use production methods that bring damage to the ecosystems of developing countries. Reducing the purchase of cleaning products is thus a good thing from personal, environmental and ethical perspectives.

If you’re also looking for a more natural and eco-friendly hair-washing method, why not try this combination of baking soda and apple cider vinegar? Perhaps you, too, will find the perfect solution for yourself and contribute to environmental protection. Your hair and the planet will thank you.

P.S.: I like to put a twig of fresh rosemary in the vinegar. Some say it betters the conditioning effects. I haven’t noticed any significant difference, but I like the pretty look it adds to the bathroom!
