整咗七樣嘢 I Made Seven Things
今期內容介紹我用啤酒瓶來風乾白切雞的做法，展示一個莧菜種植實驗，分享保護樹上蘋果的做法、牛奶樽的用途、掛牆筆筒和紙巾盒、以及分享一個香橙帶子松子菠菜沙律、以及自做的叉燒。
This post talks about how I hang-dry a chicken with a bottle of beer, showcases an Amaranth planting experiment, an apple bagging method, ideas of upcycling milk bottles, and hanging pen holders and tissue boxes. I also share a recipe for Orange Scallop Pine Nut Spinach Salad, and my Char Siu recipe.
1. 掛白切雞 Hang-drying a Chicken
用一瓶啤酒這樣掛起白切雞來風乾，很不錯！掛完還有啤酒喝！
Here’s a great idea for hang-drying a chicken – using a bottle of beer! And there is a bottle of beer to enjoy afterwards!
2. 莧菜種植實驗 Amaranth Planting Experiment
這兩兩盆莧菜是同一時間播種的，左邊那盆放了在一個較陰的地方，右邊那盆一直放在好陽光的地方。結果左邊比右邊長得緩慢很多，而且一直沒變紅色，直至放回在有陽光的位置，才長大變紅。實驗證明，莧菜的生長非常依靠猛烈陽光。
這批莧菜是6月2號播種的，7月7日收割第一輪，即36日有收成，是夏天挺不錯的農作物。
These two pots of Amaranth were sown at the same time. The pot on the left was initially placed in a shadier area, while the one on the right grew in a spot with ample sunlight. As a result, the one on the left grew much more slowly and didn’t turn red until it was moved to a sunny location. This experiment demonstrates that Amaranth growth heavily relies on the abundance of sunlight.
This batch of Amaranth was sown on 2 June, and the first harvest took place on 7 July, just 36 days later. It’s a good crop for the summer season.
3. 保護蘋果 Apple Bagging
蘋果被蟲咬！幫他們套上小袋作保護後，現在蘋果樹像掛滿了禮物的聖誕樹！
The apples on my apple tree fell victim to bugs! I covered them with protective bags. Now the apple tree looks like a Christmas tree adorned with delightful little gifts!
4. 香橙帶子松子菠菜沙律 Orange Scallop Pine Nut Spinach Salad
有時雪櫃有什麼，便用什麼來做沙律。這個香橙帶子松子菠菜沙律，用橙汁芥辣蜜糖做dressing，既好吃又幫我清掉雪櫃的食物。
Sometimes I make salad with whatever ingredients I have in the fridge. This delightful salad uses oranges, scallop, pine nuts and spinach, drizzled with a tangy orange-mustard-honey dressing. It not only tastes delicious but also helps me use up the food in my fridge.
5. 牛奶樽的用途 Uses of Milk Bottles
牛奶樽可以有許多用途，例如做事漏斗、貓沙剷。
Empty milk bottles can be used for various purposes. Here is a funnel and a cat litter scoop made of these bottles.
6. 掛牆筆筒和紙巾盒 Hanging Pen Holders and Tissue Boxes
為節省桌面空間，把兩個果汁瓶掛上牆用來做筆筒，另外在紙巾盒背面打兩個洞，牆上鑽兩粒螺絲，也掛到牆上。
To save desktop space, I hung two juice bottles on the wall to use as pen holders. As for the tissue paper box, I simply drilled two holes on the back of the box and hung it on the wall with two screws.
7. 做叉燒 Making Char Siu (Hong Kong Style Barbecue Pork)
叉燒做得多了，逐漸研究出自己喜歡的食譜！客人說有師傅級水準呢！
After making Char Siu (barbecued pork) many times, I gradually developed my own favourite recipe. My guests complimented it, saying it reached a master chef’s level of excellence!
